Mole Removal Treatments: Surgical and Laser Methods
In addition to surgical treatment, it is also possible to treat moles using laser techniques with effective results. Laser beams can treat benign and small nevi located in the dermis (middle skin layer) and epidermis (upper skin layer).
Three types of laser treatments are used in mole removal: Plasma Energy, Q-Switched Nd
Laser, and Fractional CO2 Laser. The appropriate laser treatment type is determined through a physician’s examination.
Can All Moles Be Removed with Laser Treatment?
Not all moles can be treated with laser therapy; only benign moles are suitable for laser removal. It is crucial to determine whether a mole is benign or malignant. This determination requires an examination by a specialist doctor. Factors such as the size, color, and shape of the nevus are considered when assessing the potential malignancy of a mole.
Factors indicating the potential malignancy of a mole include:
- Size: If the nevus has a diameter larger than 5 cm, there is a possibility of malignancy, and laser treatment is not applied without proper assessment.
- Color: If the mole has multiple colors, it may be malignant and requires pathological examination.
- Border: Irregular borders or non-sharp edges may indicate malignancy.
- Symmetry: Asymmetrical shapes on the mole need to be evaluated for malignancy.
Mole Removal with Plasma Treatment (Plexr)
Plasma technology, used in treating various skin issues, is highly effective in mole removal. Typically, one session is sufficient, though additional sessions may be conducted if necessary. After plasma treatment, a wound forms at the mole site, which scabs over in about a week. The scab eventually falls off, leaving a pink area that returns to normal skin color within 2 weeks to 2 months. Plasma treatment can also be used on skin tags.
Who Can Undergo Laser Mole Removal?
There is no age limit for laser mole removal. The essential factor is a specialist doctor’s evaluation to determine if the mole is suitable for laser treatment.
Does Laser Mole Removal Leave Scars?
Generally, no scars are left after laser mole removal. The critical factor is that the nevus is small and located in the epidermis. If the mole is deep and relatively large, a small scar matching the skin color may remain.
